I grew up in Vancouver, Canada. After finishing high school, I studied at the University of British Columbia and obtained my Bachelor's of Applied Sciences (BASc, 2007) in Chemical and Biological Engineering (biotechnical specialization). I then moved to Delft, the Netherlands and in 2009 received my MSc in Chemical Engineering from the Delft University of Technology. My master's project involved modeling of algal streamer formation in river biofilms, coupling existing individual-based models of biofilm formation, including microbial growth, attachment and detachment, with river hydrodynamics.
I next pursued a PhD in the group of Prof. Gilles van Wezel at Leiden University, the Netherlands. My project involved studying the growth and development of Streptomyces bacteria via cytoskeletal mutant analysis, light and electron microscopy, and computational modeling. To learn more, please see my research description and please check my work outline on the next pages. In November, 2013, I defended my PhD.
For the next two years (2014-2016), I was a post-doc in the group of Prof. Geoffrey Wasteneys in the Department of Botany at the University of British Columbia, back in my hometown Vancouver. Currently, I am working as a science and grant writer at the Centre for Heart Lung Innovation at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver.
