University of British Columbia - Vancouver, Canada
Postdoctoral Researcher
- Study of the dynamic microtubule restructuring events that take place during growth and development in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. My project involved cloning of a MT-associated protein behind tissue-specific promoters to analyze its effect on MT organization within different layers of the root. I also worked towards developing a correlative microscopy and electron tomography workflow to study the bundling of MTs at cell edges. Finally, I used mathematical modeling to explore the gene regulatory networks involved in developmental transitions, integrating single cell models into a multicellular spatial context.

Technical Internships
The following three internships (total 16 months of work experience) were part of my undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering.
January – August 2006
Teck Cominco Metals Ltd. − Trail, Canada
Production Coop Student
Robert BOSCH GmbH − Stuttgart, Germany
Microsystems Technology Intern
September – December 2004
Outokumpu Research Oy − Pori, Finland
Student Metallurgy Trainee
January – August 2006
Teck Cominco Metals Ltd. − Trail, Canada
Production Coop Student
- During my work term at Teck Cominco my main technical focus was solvent extraction. Working both in the laboratory and plant, I performed equilibrium loading tests and extraction kinetic tests to quantify metal extraction and circuit stage efficiency. In addition, I worked on the revision and development of operating procedures and training material for the Trail Operations solvent extraction plant. During my final two months, I also investigated the cementation of nickel in Hot Stage Releach Residue, a process step to recover zinc from a cementation cake.
Robert BOSCH GmbH − Stuttgart, Germany
Microsystems Technology Intern
- My work at BOSCH involved the development and characterization of thin film surface passivation coatings for acceleration Micro−Electro−Mechanical Systems or MEMS. During the work term I worked extensively in a clean room setting operating a variety of equipment (including a Chemical Vapour Deposition oven, Contact Angle device, Surface Profilometer and Interferometer) for the purpose of investigating and improving coating chemicals. My work involved both hands−on testing and experimentation as well as data analysis, research and experimental design.
September – December 2004
Outokumpu Research Oy − Pori, Finland
Student Metallurgy Trainee
- As a co−operative work student at Outokumpu, I worked in a hydrometallurgical laboratory on a bioleaching research project. My duties were to assist in running the bench−scale experiments, including the start−up and maintenance of the bioleaching columns. During the study, I performed chemical and microbiological analyses, and daily measured the temperature, pH, oxygen dissolution and redox−potential of samples of column effluent.
